There are 2 steps which you need to take to wash a massive needle point rug. Also keep in mind that you will have some foot traffic patterns with which to be anxious.
First of all, you need to obtain some plastic sheeting to put beneath the rug if it isn’t on a water-resistant floor, for example vinyl. You’ll need some foaming carpet cleaner and a rug cleaning machine that doesn’t have rotating bristles. If the machine contains an upholstery tool, you may use that as long as it does not have any rotating bristles. When it comes to cleaning a needlepoint rug, consider it as a gigantic piece of upholstery that should be cleaned.
Before you use the frothing carpet protection cleaners, do a spot test in a tiny unobtrusive location to make certain of its color fastness. Spray on the froth, then let it sit for ten or 15 minutes, then wipe it up with a wet rag. Don’t scrub the area ; wipe it up softly. Do not continue if there is any color in the froth, apart from the dust from the surface. If the spot test turns out fine then you can use the foam on the other areas. Even though the directions on the can may indoctrinate to clean the foam into the rug, don’t do so with a yarn rug. Instead employ a damp material and work it around a little so that it will supply the surface with adequate coverage. Then let it sit for ten mins or so, then wipe the surface with a damp rag to take away the foam. Then wipe the surface fastidiously with a marginally wetter rag, and rinse it frequently.
After that spray satisfactory carpet protection froth over the whole rug so that it will spread from one end to the other. Don’t spray a thick layer of froth, but only enough to cover it. Then work it around scrupulously with a moist fabric ( as before ), then let it sit for approximately ten mins. At that point, the froth should be just about gone. Then go over the surface with the carpet machine and halfhearted water. Suck out as much water as practical as the rug should not be sopping wet. Also, don’t rub hard on the surface of the rug when it is damaged as the yarns could get damaged.
The rug should dry as quickly as possible. For the first drying, you may hang it up outside over a line or railing. If you’re not in a position to do so, put towels under the rug and set up a fan to blow across the top. When the rug is very close to becoming dry, take it off the line and lay it on the floor where it can dry flat. Do not walk on it or place furniture on it till the rug is completely dry.
Cotton fibers will weaken and ultimately rot with time, so you need to keep in mind that this may occur with your cotton rugs. Also, the rugs will be even more vulnerable to breaking or tearing when they’re wet because of the extra weight on the threads. The condition of the rugs could be further damaged when they experience the agitation process in a washing machine, even if the machine is on the gentle cycle. So if the rugs are not clean enough after the 1st washing, you may need to use the old fashioned “boil” methodology. Boiling is the best method of cleaning a very old rug if the dust is quite dour , however , you may not be able to find a pan that is giant enough with which to boil the rug.
In order to divide long woven hall runners, you can cut across the width, not along the length of the rug. I you have tied fringes on the ends of the rug, you would want the new ends to look the same. to do this process, cut the rug, then unravel many rows of weaving so that you’re going to get enough warp thread to tie in knots ; there’ll be some loss in the length of the rug. This procedure must be accomplished quickly or more rows will unravel. It’s best to enlist the services of a mate who has done some weaving to help you as you are ready to chop. You will also accomplish this procedure by stitching across the end row using a heavy duty machine, that may actually minimize the raveling , however , the machine seam will be obvious.
